Biography : Nancy Graham
Nancy Graham is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RyersonUniversity). Nancy has worked as an Operating Room nurse at St. Joseph’s Health Science Centre (Toronto), Ottawa Health Sciences Centre and as a community nurse with the Victorian Order of Nurses (Toronto). At Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Nancy has worked as an Acute Care Resources Team nurse. She is currently working for the City of Toronto as a Public Health nurse in the Healthy Communities directorate.
Since 2005, Nancy has participated with five missions with Doctors without Borders in Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sri Lanka and Jordan (Syrian war-injured). The work has involved providing primary health care, public health, and surgical care with small expatriate teams and large teams of local national staff.
Nancy is the Regional Coordinator (Ontario) with the MSF Canada Association and advocates about populations in distress through publishing in professional Journals, speaking and fundraising engagements. She was a keynote speaker for a recent annual meeting of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. In 2011 Nancy was a recipient of a Toast Masters International – Communications and Leadership Award
Pity is not enough, compassion is a real and deep human feeling, sympathy and empathy are good, but solidarity is better, and collaboration is the best thing we can offer to Africans especially the women and children who want to work hard to realize a better future for themselves and their children.
