Gomorogo Foods, with the help of Canadian Samaritans for Africa, has begun the first of three implementation phases of the women’s agricultural empowerment project in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, South Sudan. The project was designed as a two-year (2026–2027) initiative to economically empower women and youth smallholder farmers through agriculture, beginning with a foundation phase focused on beneficiary targeting, skills development, agricultural inputs, extension support, savings and enterprise development. Twenty women have been trained and supported to begin and strengthen production. The agricultural package included vegetable production, with tomatoes, eggplant and groundnuts among the crops supported.
Areas of Focus
-Women’s economic empowerment through agriculture and smallholder production.
-Training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), crop management and climate-smart
agriculture.
-Provision of seeds and farming tools to enable women to establish productive plots.
-Vegetable production, including tomatoes, eggplant and groundnuts.
– Financial literacy, savings, budgeting, bookkeeping, and preparation for group-based savings
mechanisms.
-Gender-responsive agricultural participation and women’s decision-making.
-Extension services covering crop growth, pest control, post-harvest handling, quality,
marketing, and farmer support.
-Building a foundation for sustainable food production, income generation and future market linkages.
